Running Rut
I know I have neglected blogging recently. I am sorry if you do read any of my posts for the long wait. I’m trying to focus on getting back and talking about being stuck in a running rut was not the way to get through. Now I’m on the other side I will fill in the gaps.
Coming Back
My mind now seems to be in the right place and running is going well. I seem to have passed through my running rut. I want to improve I want to get back to where I was last year both running wise and weight (I have let the weight gradually increase). The answer to both of these is simple all I have to do is run more. My times are coming down I managed to get close to a 10 minute PB at the Dartford Half Marathon 2014 . My parkrun times are gradually getting closer to my PB as well. I’m currently only 1 minute and 10 seconds off the pace so hopefully it wont be too long. I find parkrun is a great way to help build up running mojo as the atmosphere is so enjoyable. Perfect for recovering from a running rut.
Training Sessions
Over the Past few weeks I have also done a few sessions with Istead & Ifield Harriers. I ran a tempo run along the canal path that is only a few minutes from our front door. I am intending to try and fit one of them into my schedule. The session is hard but I enjoy hard sessions. I like the feeling of knowing I pushed myself to the limit and hoping to see the gains.
This week we also had a introduction to ‘Kenyan Hills’ from another runner at the club. I wont lie they are hard we only ran 3 X 6 Minutes. Basically Kenyan hills are running up and down a hill at the same effort both up and down. we were told to run 8/10 effort level this meant climbing up the hill at a tough effort and flying down the hill to try and keep the same effort. With a one minute recovery in between each 6 minute block. Overall the session was very tough but I did feel good afterwards. The usual uphill slog back to the club was hardly noticeable. While I was jogging back filled with a sense of accomplishment and a lot of pride.
Medway Mile
We also had a Mile Race arranged by Medway council. The race was very well organised and the first time I have raced a mile. There were a few hills which were nice. The best part was seeing so many families taking part out of the 3000 runners which is amazing. A massive well done has to be said to Medway Council for arranging such an event and helping me pull through my running rut.
